This smooth blue patina bronze head depicts a bearded Jew complete with curly earlocks and phylactery on the forehead-a leather box containing verses from Deuteronpmy proclaiming the oneness of God. Sunk in prayer, his eyelids almost cover the eyes, slightly open to retain a connection with the outer world. Very Jewish and yet universal as so many of Kafri's sculptures, this piece illustrates the potential unity of inner contemplation and outer awareness.
